We had our appointment at Mount Sinai yesterday. This time we met with Dr. Seaward and a pediatrician. Even though we met with two doctors and had an ultrasound we were out of there in 2 1/2 hours which is really good.
First we met with the pediatrician who just explained that it is her team's job to make sure the baby is stabilized after birth before he is sent to Sick Kids where they will take over. It sounds as though we will not be able to hold the baby after he is born but we should be able to see him once he is stable and before they take him to Sick Kids. The reality of the situation hit home once again.
Next we had the ultrasound and the baby now weighs 5 pounds 7 ounces which is good. He is still in the head down position which is also good. They were concerned that there has been quite a decrease in the amount of amniotic fluid since the last time I was there which was May 6. They asked if the Drs at McMaster had mentioned anything about the fluid during any of my ultrasounds there and they have not. They were also concerned that they did not see a lot of movement from the baby but he moves around just as much as always. If I could have had an icecream they would have seen him move! Anyway, now they want me to pay close attention to his movements and do kick counts if I don't notice a lot of movements. So far it has not been necessary as he has very active times throughout the day. Because of the decrease in amniotic fluid I now have to go for weekly visits but they can take place at McMaster. So I go to McMaster this Friday and next Friday to make sure everything is OK and the fluid is not decreasing too much. If it does then I will have to deliver sooner.
The doctor scheduled the date for induction for Thursday, June 25th. Just over three weeks away. I am happy to have a date but the closer it gets the scarier it gets. We were not able to schedule a tour of the Labour and Delivery area at Mount Sinai but we did go there to pre-register at least. We don't know much about what to expect on June 25th when we go in to deliver but they said we will discuss it at our next appointment at Mount Sinai on June 17.
Over the next three weeks we will work on getting Nathan's room ready for him and just spending time relaxing and hanging out with Maddison. I finished working on Thursday so I now have some more time to do those things. I will write again on Friday if there is anything new following the appointment at McMaster.
