Matthew was born November 10, 2008. He was diagnosed with pulmonary atresia and VSD that same day. His pulmonary artery never formed. He had open heart surgery on Nov 13th. The doctors inserted a BT Shunt . This is a temporary fix until Matthew can grow and get stronger. At two months, he had an emergency heart cath. It was then that he had angioplasty done to open the shunt back up and to open his narrowed lung arteries.
He is doing better now. He has a critical care nurse that stays with him 40 hours a week. This has been a blessing. The past four months has been very exhausting mentally and physically.
I have been amazed at the procedures that are now available for patients with CHD and the strength that these babies have.
